The thinking behind the tool

Wedding filming is only part of the job.

Pricing a wedding based only on coverage hours misses all the invisible work. Here is how to turn a quote into a meaningful business decision.

01 / Hours

Count the entire booking.

Include enquiries, preparation, travel, shooting, backing up footage, editing, audio and delivery. Your eight-hour package might take 30 hours or more to complete.

02 / Costs

Separate job costs from overheads.

Put travel and music licensing under direct costs. Put annual subscriptions, insurance and equipment replacement under fixed overheads. Count each expense once.

03 / Sustainability

Work backwards from your year.

How much do you need to earn before tax? How many weddings could you realistically film? Your annual target may require a higher price than the hourly calculation alone.

Frequently asked questions

A little more clarity before you quote.

Is this a market-rate calculator?

No. It estimates a sustainable starting quote from your working time and costs. Whether couples will pay it depends on your portfolio, location, service and market.

Why are there two calculated prices?

The hourly approach prices one wedding using your labour target. The annual approach spreads your earnings goal and fixed costs across the number of weddings you expect to book. We highlight the higher number to avoid accidentally ignoring a business goal.

Does the result include tax or VAT?

No. Earnings targets are before personal tax and National Insurance. VAT registration and charging rules, where applicable, can change the required price. Speak to an accountant about your circumstances.

Does this include editing the ceremony and speeches?

Only if you include the hours in the editing field. If your packages offer multiple deliverables, account for all of them. Editing time is often a major part of the booking.

Do you save my numbers?

No. All calculations happen in your browser. This page has no account, server-side calculator, analytics script or form collecting your inputs.

Tip: If your target price looks too high for your market, review what is included, your efficiency, target booking volume and positioning rather than automatically lowering your earnings.
